LeDeG Midwifery College Development Timeline

Stage 1: Foundation & Establishment

Years 0-3
Standardized Excellence and Local Impact

Key Activities:

  • Curriculum Development: Design a core midwifery program that integrates critical gaps mentioned: medical ethics, community empowerment, and adolescent health.
  • Faculty & Infrastructure: Recruit experienced midwives and clinicians. Establish a primary campus with simulation labs and library resources.
  • Accreditation & Partnerships: Secure accreditation and license from the Ethiopian MoE, MoH, ETA, CSA.
  • Student Recruitment: Focus on economically dis advantaged girls, from emerging regions and remote areas of others regions .Recruit passionate students to study midwifery and go back to serve their community.

Funding: Founder investment, funds from local and international foundations, organizations, and individuals.

Success Metrics: First cohort graduation rate, national exit exam pass rates, their performances.

Stage 2: Growth & Specialization

Years 3-6
Scale up the college in all directions; make the college the 1st classes college by creating center of excellence which is by providing quality education, producing ethical competent and compassionate midwives.

Key Activities:

  • Advanced Training Programs: in adition to long term training provide short-term trainings, certified courses to access or practice midwife skills in order to address "skill upkeep and upgrading."
  • Rural Outreach Initiative: Establish a links with Rural HC, Hospitals where our graduates placed.
  • Surveillance of graduates to review the curriculum based on the feed backs from the field observation.
  • Integrate new modules and technologies, into the core program. Strongly work on Prevention of Harmful traditional Practices and Nutritional Counseling for Mothers (women).
  • Alumni Network: Build a strong network to track outcomes and provide continuous professional development.

Funding: Map dedicated potential donors, foundations and local individuals for rural initiatives.

Success Metrics: Number of midwives skilled through long term and short courses, performance of graduates working in rural health facilities.

Stage 3: Establishment & Systemic Integration

Years 6-10
Becoming a Centre of Excellence in midwifery education in the country

Key Activities:

  • Employ Quality instructor and focus more on practical session
  • Equip sill lab and Library center
  • Strengthen Research and Community services
  • Public-Private Partnerships: Develop sustainable partnerships with private Ethiopian businesses to reduce dependency on donor funds.
  • National Educator Training: Become a trainer-of-trainers institution, offering programs to improve midwifery education quality nationally.
  • Technology Integration: Develop mobile learning (e-learning) modules for remote skill refreshers.

Funding: Diversified revenue streams: Research grants, corporate partnerships, and consultancy fees.

Success Metrics: Secured mega research funds, Publications in reputable health journals, policy briefs adopted by the government, percentage of revenue from non-donor sources (foundation).

Stage 4: Expansion & Renewal

Years 10+
Sustainable Legacy and Regional Leadership

Key Activities:

  • New Campus Establishment: Strategically open a second campus in a different region of Ethiopia.
  • Regional Influence: Offer programs and consultancy services to other countries in sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Community Health Model: Develop and license a sustainable, community-owned health delivery model.
  • Lifelong Learning Platform: Launch a full-fledged digital academy for continuous professional development.

Funding: A sustainable mix of funds development, licensing fees from similar institutions by conducting trainings for the community health professionals and other.

Attract young number of international students to generate income in order to financially self-sufficiency.

Success Metrics: Successful replication of the model in a new region, new students from abroad , income generated etc…
